Seminole Pro Tour Hits Hot-lanta by Skip Maloney The second event of the Seminole Pro Tour kicked off Friday at Mr. Cues II Billiards in Atlanta, GA, and now heads into its final day with 12 players returning to battle it out for the $8,000-added prize purse. In a first-round upset, Nevel won double-hill over Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer 7-6, sending Archer to the one-loss bracket early. Nevel followed him there in the next match after facing the winner of the tour’s opening event in Palm Harbors, FL, last month, Sparky Ferrell, who bested Nevel 7-5. Suddenly Nevel and Archer were on the opposite ends of a new bracket, where they both worked their way through 4 opponents and prepared themselves for a possible rematch among the final 12. On the winners’ side, Ferrell went on to defeat Louis Ulrich 7-5 before running into the hot cue of Jeremy “Double J” Jones, who, after narrowly defeating Clint McCullough 7-6 in the opening round, lost only 3 of the next 17 games he played on his way to the face-off against Ferrell, whom he then defeated 8-2. Corey Deuel, in the meantime, last year’s Player of the Year on the Seminole Tour, was on...

Elite Billiards Field Converge on Montreal Print E-mail

Elite Billiards Field Converge on Montreal Canadian 9 Ball Tour Staff Le Skratch Bar Billiards, located in Montreal’s south end, rolled out the red carpet and welcomed some of the country’s best 9-ball players into town. A nearly full field was looking to capitalize on tour event number six and the $10,000 added purse that accompanies each stop of the Canadian 9-Ball Tour, presented by Indigo and Chapters bookstores and Cineplex Entertainment. The first major upset with respect to top seeded players occurred in Montreal without a ball being struck. Number-one seed John Morra failed to show up for his match and was disqualified. This completely opened up the top half of the draw, allowing for players like Stan Tourangeau of BC and Adam Smith from Detroit to take advantage. Danny Hewitt, the winner of the last tour stop in Quebec and former host pro at Le Skratch, was definitely going to be a hot favorite with the local fans and would be tough to beat. Jason Klatt and Ryan Solleveld from Winnipeg, coming off first- and second-place finishes, respectively, in Kelowna, were hoping to bring the same form to Montreal. Calgarians, Tyler Edey, and Edwin Montal would join...

Chau and Ng Conquer All Comers Tiger Pool Tour / Winchester, VA by Andy Lincoln The Tiger Tour headed West March 29-30 to Winchester, VA, and found a fantastic new room by the name of Blue Fox Billiards. The room has been open for less than a month, but already the weekend crowds kept the place packed. The tour brought in an additional 63 open division entrants and 13 ladies to claim their stake in the $2,000 added money, with Manuel Chau and Ming Ng winning their respective divisions. Chau, the 2007 year-end final winner, took on Matt Clatterbuck, the new house pro of Blue Fox Billiards, in the second round. These two rivals fought it out, with Chau winning this one 9-8. Ryan McCreesh and Brandon Shuff both looked strong, advancing over their first three opponents to reach Sunday. The winners’-side semifinals were uneventful with McCreesh defeating Moore and Chau overcoming Shuff. The hot seat match stayed close, but it was McCreesh taking the 9-6 win over Chau. In the elimination bracket, Moore and Shuff battled it out before each made a mistake at 6-all. Shuff walked away with the fortunate victory, placing Moore into the fourth-place spot. Chau jumped out...

Majid Reaffirms Position Atop British Ranking Champions, challengers, and fans all enjoyed another fantastic GB 9 Ball Tour of non-stop Action the weekend of March 28-30. This time it was the Southern Masters at the fabulous Rileys American Pool and Snooker Club in Croydon, near London, and it was a weekend full of shock exits for the 128-player field as the pool stars fell to the diamonds in the rough. Reigning EuroTour number one Mark Gray exited the Pro Cup event in the first round after a 9-6 loss to relative newcomer Alan Millership from Reading, and reigning world champion Daryl Peach also fell at the first hurdle with a 9-6 victory for rising star Neil Raybone. Events worsened in the main event as tears were shed when three players were actually disqualified after two days of grueling qualification when they arrived more than 20 minutes late for their matches after the clocks were advanced by one hour because of the official start of British Summer Time. Number-one-ranked GB9 player Imran Majid had a close shave and had to give his opponent a three-rack start when he arrived 19 minutes late for his match in the Pro Cup. Majid found this penalty too much to overcome as he...

Rodriquez Takes a Win in TucsonPechauer All-American Tour / Tucson, AZ by InsidePOOL Staff The March 29 stop of the Pechauer All-American Tour saw Ramon Rodriquez triumph in the final match over Angel Martinez, taking first place. This $1,000-added event, hosted by Main Street Billiards in Tucson, AZ, drew 46 players in a double-elimination 9-ball format on 9-foot Gold Crowns. Rodriquez moved unscathed to the finals. In the hot seat match, Rodriquez’s powerful break dominated Martinez by a 9-1 score. In the A-bracket semifinals earlier on, Rodriquez outpointed Rudy Alameda 9-7, while Martinez outgunned Frank Wright by the same 9-7 margin. On the B-side, Zeb Crawford and Dave Collins tied at fifth place via losses to Alameda and Wright, respectively. Alameda overwhelmed Wright in the B-side semis to end his march at fourth place by a 7-1 margin. The B-side finals saw Alameda take a 4-0 lead, only to have Martinez record 7 straight games in his column to stop Alameda at third place 7-4. The single race-to-11 finals featured great play and many outstanding run-outs, but as with the hot seat match, Rodriquez prevailed 11-6 over Martinez for the crown. ...
