Abbink Aces the Jacoby Cues TourBy InsidePOOL Staff Rachael Abbink cruised undefeated through a 39-player field on the Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour. Held the weekend of September 25-25, 2004, the event took place at Hall of Fame Billiards.
The host location, owned by Larry Rossman, is an upscale poolroom that boasts a full bar and kitchen. With twenty 9-foot Brunswick Gold Crown IV’s, six bar tables, and two snooker tables, it is the ultimate players’ room in the area. With both Hall of Fame Billiards and Labarons Billiards contributing to the $1,500-added purse money, the players had a lot to contend for. Additionally, the winner scored both the Michigan State Championship title and a qualifier for the Women’s Open tournament next month in Albuquerque, NM. In the hot seat match, Abbink met and handily defeated Kelly Pendleton 7-5, sending her to the one-loss side. There she was confronted by Alice Rim, who sent her packing with a 7-1 wipeout. The final match between Rim and Abbink was clouded with break troubles by both parties and safety play, but ultimately it was Abbink who pulled away 9-4 for the three-way win.
