Allen Lights Up Syracuse in Undefeated Victory

By Bill Rosenberger

Cap's Cue Club is the oldest poolroom in Syracuse, NY, hosting 27 years of billiards.  Timmy Allen wanted to make sure he left his mark there, too, defeating Jim Forsythe 7-5 in a CNY 9-Ball Tour stop.

The $350-added event housed 42 players on October 2-3, including Allen, who was dominant throughout the tournament.  He breezed through many of the early matches and then prepared for some tougher competition in the latter stages of the final day.

Allen faced off against Forsythe in the hot seat match and proved the better player, winning 7-1.  Bruce Carroll matched up against George Kortary in the quarterfinals, with the match going hill-hill.  Carroll prevailed to advance to the semifinals against Forsythe.  In a tough match-up, Forsythe emerged over Carroll and headed to the finals against Allen.

Tournament director Mike Renshaw described Forsythe as a "fighter" and a "player that doesn't give up."  Those characteristics came through in the finals, as Forsythe forced the match to 5-5.  Apparently Allen just wanted it more-in the twelfth game, he sank the 3 ball and never missed again, finishing off Forsythe 7-5.

Results:

1st Timmy Allen $450

2nd Jim Forsythe $240

3rd Bruce Carroll $200

4th George Kortary $160

5th Jose Mendez, Pao Xiong $120

7th Steve Countryman, Dwight Dixon $80

9th Gary Empey, Mike Carelli, John Ferrara, Jim McMahon $40
