Another Joss Tour Win for Davis by InsidePOOL Magazine

Another Joss Tour Win for Davis

By Bill Rosenberger

MikeDavis.jpgMike Davis bested a 51-player field in a tournament with over $10,000 in prize money at the Renaissance Billiard Club in Quincy, MA, on October 9-10.  The Joss Northeast 9-Ball event was worth $3,000, and Davis earned every cent.

Players were treated to 17 pool tables and four beautiful Diamond tables that were used for Sunday's final four matches.  The 51 competitors were also the center of attention for a large weekend crowd.

Tour favorite "Earthquake" Keith McCready met Danny Basavich twice in the tournament.  The first time McCready sent him to the west side, and the second time ended Basavich's weekend participation, leaving him with a fourth place finish.  McCready, though, earned a spot in the semifinals.

Davis and Jason Michas faced off in what should have been a heated and close contest for the hot seat; however, Davis ran full steam ahead en route to a 9-2 victory.  If Michas were going to the finals, he would have to take the rougher road to get there.

McCready and Michas were set in the semifinal and displayed quite the competitive qualities.  The match went back and forth until it was tied at 7 games apiece.  Michas went up 8-7 but missed the 9 ball for the win.  McCready made the 9, knotting the score at 8.  He was in control in the definitive match but miscued on the 6 ball, leaving Michas to run out for a spot in the finals.

Davis, looking for another undefeated victory, was ready for a rematch with Michas in the final.  Both players traded games back and forth until it was 7-7.  Davis capitalized on good defense and solid shots to win the final two games for the 9-7 victory.

1st Mike Davis $3,000
2nd Jason Michas $2,000
3rd Keith McCready $1,200

5th Mike Zuglan, Mike Minichello $600
