Aquino's a Sure Bet by InsidePOOL Magazine

Aquino's a Sure Bet

by J.A. Barnes

aquino-wins-again.jpgForty-five players turned up at Anastasia Billiards for the Fury North Florida Tour's fifth event on April 10 in St. Augustine, FL.  This tournament produced an exciting rematch between points leader Julio Aquino and his closest threat Tim Daniel.

Matches among the top contenders were close, beginning with a third round match up between Aquino and last week's Fury Central stop winner Adam Wheeler. Wheeler sent Aquino to the one-loss side with a narrow 7-6 win and progressed through the winners' side until he met Daytona favorite Matt Beauris, who handed him a 7-6 loss.

Meanwhile, Daniel was also making a move, capturing a spot in the hot seat match with five straight wins.  Daniel met Beauris in the hot seat and the two turned out another hill-hill match, this time with Daniel moving on to claim king of the hill.  This placed Beauris on the west side, where Aquino had just won his sixth match to make it to the semifinals.  Hill-hill seemed to be the theme of the day as Aquino added his fourth consecutive 5-4 win by defeating Beauris to move into the finals.

A final race-to-9 match between Aquino and Daniel was set, looking reminiscent of the third tour stop where Daniel ousted Aquino 9-8.  This rematch was no let down, as the players went rack for rack with strong breaks and solid run outs.  This time it was Aquino who took the match with a 9-8 win to capture his third North Florida win this season.

Results:

1st Julio Aquino $530

2nd Tim Daniel $340

3rd Matt Beauris $180

4th Elvis Rodriguez $100

5th Adam Wheeler, Tracie Hines $75

7th Bruce Choyce, John Tatum $50
