Archer at Home in AtlantaBy InsidePOOL Staff Johnny Archer took care of his home turf at the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour's season finale in Atlanta, GA. The April 16-17 event, held at Mr. Cues II, drew 51 players, including previous tour winners B.J. Ussery, Tony Crosby, and David Broxson.
Archer, who is the also the house pro, showed why he is the top-ranked professional player in the UPA by easily advancing to the hot seat match. Broxson, too, was having a successful tournament, and he proved that he is an up-and-coming player with his impressive play against "The Scorpion." Down 7-1, Broxson went on a torrid eight-game winning streak that propelled him into the finals and sent Archer to the one-loss side. On the west side, Crosby was doing his best to stay alive, ousting Brian Butler and Paul Song to reach the semifinals against Archer. But his streak ended as Archer pulled out the 9-4 win to earn a rematch with Broxson in the finals. In the past, when a player sends Archer to the one-loss side, he doesn't want to face him again in that tournament because that's when "The Scorpion" is at his best. And there wasn't much Broxson could do in Sunday night's final match except watch as Archer racked up win after win on his way to an 11-2 championship victory.
