Souquet, who suffered his first loss the evening before to Parica in the hot seat match, met Archer in the semifinals. The two players were neck-and-neck until the score reached 6-all in the race to 10. With a couple of errors on Souquet’s part and an excellent break-and-run by Archer, soon the 2003 Player of the Year was the 10-6 winner. The final match between Archer and Parica was a single race to 10. Archer took a strong 4-1 lead over “the leader of the invasion” and then upped it to 7-2. Again, Parica never really got the chance to get in the groove of things, and Archer’s play was so effortless that the outcome seemed apparent. Although Archer missed a long cut on the 5 ball to allow Parica to get to 4, he was soon on the hill. With a smooth stroke and a smile, Archer broke and ran out the last rack to win the final match 10-4.
