Arizona Women's Billiards Tour Claimed by Williams

By InsidePOOL Staff

susanwilliams-4-17.jpgSusan Williams walked away with her best personal finish on April 16-17, as the AWBT held its third event of the season at Northern Lounge in Glendale, AZ.  The 8-ball event featured 32 women from across the nation, including hometown favorite and eventual winner Susan Williams, along with the sharp-shooting Tina Pawloski from San Diego, CA.

In the first round, Williams was defeated and sent to the west side, but she didn't let that discourage her, as she made a tremendous run back to the championship match.  She battled through a difficult bracket, and by ousting Justine Karber, she advanced all the way to the finals.  Her opponent, Pawloski, had lost only two games in two days, including three shutout victories to make it to win the hot seat.  In the double-elimination championship match, Williams took the early lead, but Pawloski battled back with three straight wins, putting her in position to walk away with the victory.  However, Williams refused to concede as she took the next two games, winning the first set 4-3.

In the second set, Pawloski quickly took a 3-1 lead and appeared to be on the verge of winning the tournament, but Williams retained her composure and came back to tie the set at 3 apiece.  Pawloski ran the first 5 balls in the final and decisive game, but a crucial mistake left her in a tough position, which Williams used to capture the victory.
