AWBT Fundraiser a HitBy Dawn Anderson The Arizona Women's Billiard Tour held its annual scotch doubles fundraiser event, and 29 teams came out to support the Sojourner Women's Center. The event, held February 19 at Time Out Lounge in Tempe, AZ, also included a crock pot cooking contest and a custom cue raffle. Last year's winning team, Meiko Yamanobe and Jimmy Mendoza, were looking for back-to-back wins, and they were undefeated until they reached the hot seat match. Their opponents were Diana Clayton and Louie Fratini, who were also playing very tough. So tough that they swept the defending champs 2-0 to advance to the finals. Yamanobe and Mendoza headed to the semifinals to face Tami Breuninger and Don Rice, who had been staving off elimination. The two teams both put up one match, but Breuninger and Rice rallied in the third game and took the match 2-1. In the double-elimination final match, Breuninger and Rice needed a two-set sweep to capture the championship, and they moved one step closer after a 2-0 win in the first set. In the second set, the score went 1-1, and Clayton and Fratini controlled the table for the 2-1 win, giving them their first team championship. Results: 1st Diana Clayton & Louie Fratini $308 2nd Tami Breuninger & Don Rice $202 3rd Meiko Yamanobe & Jimmy Mendoza $121 4th Traci Elliot & Josh Ziegler $81
