Another lopsided match took place in the semifinals between Vidas, who hails from Vancouver, B.C., and Basavich. “Kid” dominated the table almost completely, and rarely did Vidas get to look at an open shot. Finally Vidas spent a little time at the table and brought up his side of the score, but a fantastic 2-8-9 combo gave Basavich his last game, and he won the match 9-5. In the true double-elimination finals, Jones started off strong, but Basavich caught up quickly and overtook the lead. With the help of a couple of combination shots on the 9, Basavich won the first set 9-5. He came out firing in the second set as well, racing to a 5-0 lead before Jones got a game under his belt. Despite disputes over the rack, the match progressed, and Basavich reached the hill with Jones still lingering at two games. When Basavich missed a 1 ball, Jones cleared the table and then broke and ran out the next three games, but a foul by Jones in the last rack gave Basavich the match 9-6.
