Basavich Thunders Into First Place Coming from behind, Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich defeated tour regulars Phil Sherman and Eddie Abraham to claim first place on the Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour. Over five inches of rain dumped down on Drexel Hill, PA, on August 1, 2004, causing heavy rains, floods, and mudslides, but that didn't keep a tough field of players from showing at Drexeline Billiards.
It was Lee Holt who knocked Basavich to the one-loss side earlier in the day with a 6-2 victory. Basavich eliminated his opponents on the west side of the chart, meeting up with Holt again to determine who would remain in fourth place. "Kid Delicious" took control of the match from the start and never looked back as he won the rematch 6-3. Winners' side leaders Abraham and Sherman went at it to see who would grab the hot seat. Sherman jumped to the lead and ultimately defeated Abraham 6-3, sending him to the one-loss side where Basavich was waiting. Basavich, taking the upper hand almost immediately, easily defeated Abraham 6-2, leaving Abraham in third place as he moved onto the final match. The final battle was waged between Basavich and Sherman, with Sherman starting off by winning the first game. However, Basavich took the next five racks and control of the match. Sherman got as close as 6-4, but Basavich was a little too much and won the match 9-5.
