Big Night for CNY 9-Ball Tour by InsidePOOL Magazine

Big Night for CNY 9-Ball Tour

By Bill Rosenberger

December 4, 2004, was a big night for the CNY 9-Ball Tour in that they not only put their tour news online, but they also had a newcomer win the stop at Classic Billiards East in Rochester, NY.  Lyn Wechsler came through the brackets undefeated to win his first ever CNY event.

CNY initiated its own website, which includes host venues, tournament results, and will also have pictures.  Tournament director Mike Renshaw was excited to get the news out about site, saying it could really help expand the tour.

In Saturday's matches, it clear from early on that Wechsler was going to be a factor in the event.  He and Jockie Vongxia brought their undefeated records to the hot seat to battle in a close match.  With the match at hill-hill, Wechsler closed it out for a 7-6 win.

Vongxai met Jose Mendez, who had just ousted Tony Morrison 8-7.  The two triple "A" players had to race to 8, but it didn't make a difference toVongxai, who easily won 8-3.

Wechsler, a double "A" player, only had to win seven games in the final match, while Vongxai, who players in a higher class, had to win eight.  With the match at hill-hill and Wechsler breaking, it was still either man's game.  After pocketing a ball on the break, Wechler made a tough 1 ball to get position on the 2.  To make the 2, there was no doubt he would hit 9 toward the corner pocket, but the angle he played was to direct the 9 into the 3 for position on his next shot.  But after the 2 ball fell, the 9 rolled farther than he expected and sunk into the pocket.  An excited Wechsler cheered as he watched the ball go in, but after the match, he told Renshaw that he wasn't playing the 9.  "It was just a bonus," said Wechsler.

Renshaw added that he will posting his results on their new website at http://wtv-zone.com/CNY9Ball, and he will be posting pictures along with rankings and schedules in the near future.

Results:

1st Lyn Wechsler $425

2nd Jockie Vongxai $275

3rd Jose Mendez $200

4th Tony Morrison $140
