Billiards Retailer Recruits Support For US Troops
Matthews, NC – January 12, 2004 – United States Army soldiers and their families will soon be receiving a financial helping-hand from an unlikely source. Due to the efforts of CueSight Technologies, an online billiards retailer, and the generosity of their customers, a significant donation has been made to Army Emergency Relief (AER), a nonprofit charity. AER’s sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependents overcome financial hardships resulting from their military service. On the day of Saddam Hussein’s capture, CueSight sent an email to all their past customers, stating that 10% of the gross revenues from any new orders they might place would be sent to AER. Furthermore, the email stated that the customers would be given an additional 10% off their order in appreciation of their generosity. “I was overwhelmed at the positive response,” said CueSight’s President, Scott Taylor. “Ninety-one of our customers participated, and almost as many sent letters thanking us for what we were doing. It was a heartwarming experience. Mothers of serving soldiers expressed their gratitude, and one customer was actually a previous recipient of aid from AER.” Army soldiers and their families often suffer severe personal and financial hardships during crises such as the current war in Iraq. The deployment of Army forces to the Middle East has increased the need for Army Emergency Relief assistance as family financial situations are challenged due to increased expenses from separation and other family adjustments. “When I heard the news of [Hussein’s] capture, I felt that we had to do something to show our support. This seemed like such a perfect way to use our resources to help others. Plus, we were able to give our customers an easy way to directly contribute and participate,” Mr. Taylor stated. CueSight Technologies offers pool cues, billiard balls, and over 1,000 other billiards supplies online at discount prices. General E.C. Meyer, President of AER, says, “Established in 1942 by the Secretary of War, Army Emergency Relief is proud to have helped more than 2.8 million soldiers and their families overcome financial emergencies during these last 60 years. While active duty soldiers receive the bulk of our assistance, we continually help retired soldiers and widows/widowers also. We also have a robust education scholarship program that provides financial support for both dependent children and spouses.” Army Emergency Relief can be reached by phone at 1-703-428-0000, or online at http://www.aerhq.org/.
