Bowing to No One, Holt Goes Undefeated by InsidePOOL Magazine

Bowing to No one, Holt Goes Undefeated

Lee-Holt.jpgTour regular Lee Holt beat out some stiff competition at PJ's Billiards to take top honors at the tenth stop of the Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour.  Players like Reno Open winner Mike Davis, tour points leader Josh Brothers, and InsidePOOL Magazine's September Regional Roundup Player of the Month Phil Sherman all showed up in Linden NJ, on August 8, 2004, making sure Holt worked to stay undefeated.

Davis had to bear down and work through the one-loss side after his defeat by Sherman earlier in the event.  Meeting in the match to determine fourth place, Matt Krah gave Davis all he could but came up short.  Krah was forced to accept fourth place while Davis moved ahead with a 7-4 victory.

Leading to way on the winners' side were Sherman and Holt.  Sherman defeated Davis 7-6, and Holt defeated Luigui Porras 7-4 in their bids to get to the hot seat match.  The match was one sided though, with Holt easily winning the match 7-1.  Sherman was sent packing to the one-loss side where Davis awaited him, hungry for a rematch.

Davis jumped into an early 5-0 lead, but Sherman fought back to knot it at 5.  It was a great match, but Davis claimed the last two racks he needed to edge Sherman out 7-5, locking down his spot in the finals.

A bitter battle was waged between Holt and Davis in the finals, with Holt winning the first two games before Davis took one of his own.  The players went back and forth for seven racks, bringing the score to 4-3, with Holt on top.  Davis blew a chance to tie the score by missing a straight-in 9 ball.  Taking advantage of this error, Holt made the 9 for the win.  With his confidence high, Holt started pulling away from his opponent, winning four of the next five racks.  Davis made a late run, but Holt was a little too much and won the match 9-6.
