Brothers Blitzes Hampton Ridge Event by InsidePOOL Magazine

Brothers Blitzes Hampton Ridge Event

By Tori Hilty, InsidePOOL staff

JoshBrothersHR6604.jpgHampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour arrived in East Rutherford, NJ, to welcome players to the fifth stop of the season the weekend of June 5-6, 2004.  Tour regular and point leader Josh Brothers proved yet again why he is a tour favorite by storming through the competition undefeated.

The action was played out at Castle Billiards, which is owned by Minnie Morison.  The room's playing equipment and conditions were described as "terrific" by one spectator.  A full kitchen and lounge are also available to round out the experience.

An early 7-6 defeat by Wali Muhammed forced Corey Kappen to play his way through the one-loss side.  It appeared that Muhammed would be the only one to give him a run for his money, as Kappen cut down his opponents with ease to make it into the money spots.

It appeared that Kappen's crushing dominance was meant to continue as he was in dead stroke in the quarterfinals when he met and defeated Dinko Busanich 7-1.Meanwhile, Brothers claimed the hot seat as his own when he had a convincing victory over Matt Krah with a final decision of 7-4.  This sent Krah to meet Kappen in the semis.

Kappen continued to be in the zone when he met Krah in the semis.  With a commanding win of 7-1 Kappen barely gave Krah a chance to get to the table.

Hoping to keep his game on, Kappen faced off against Brothers in the finals.Brothers took command from the beginning and shot out to a 4-0 lead over Kappen.  Kappen could not get any balls on his breaks, and Brothers not only took advantage of it, but capitalized on his own breaks by running out.  Kappen managed to get on the board, 4-1, but Brothers took the next two in a row to move further in the lead 6-1.  The two traded racks bringing the score 7-2, but Brothers shut Kappen out by taking the next two racks and taking the championship home with a final decision of 9-3.

Results:1st Josh Brothers $5002nd Corey Kappen $3503rd Matt Krah $2254th Dinko Busanich $120
