Brunswick Korea International 9-Ball Championships Enters Day Two From the original 32 players who started on the winners’ side of the men’s division at the Brunswick Korea International 9-Ball Championships, the number has now been reduced by half to 16. Hometown fans must be thrilled that half of the field contains Korean players still, and the others are foreigners. Max Eberle, house pro at Hollywood Billiards and instruction columnist for InsidePOOL Magazine, had a 9-8 thriller over former world champion Thorsten Hohmann in which Eberle made a comeback from being down 3-7. Chia Ching Wu, a 16-year-old sensation from Taiwan, added another notch to his belt with a 9-3 drubbing of JBC number-one player Hiroshi Takenaka. Charlie “The Korean Dragon” Williams came back from 8-6 to survive a 9-8 escape over Korea's Seung Woo Ryu. The real upset of the day came from unknown Korean player Hong Jo Jeong when he defeated Asia’s number-one ranked Young Hwa Jeong, Korea's favorite to win the event.
On the women’s side, Jennifer Barretta from the USA is off to a good start in her first international event with wins over Korea's W.J. Han and Japan's Miyuki Sakai. Barretta will face Korea's number-one hope Ga Young Kim tomorrow. Ga Young Kim won a tough 7-5 bout with Korea's number-one women’s amateur Kui Young Lee (nicknamed the “Queen of Amateur Pool”), and then she cruised through M.S. Kwon her next match. The biggest news on the women's side is the remarkable play of Y.C. Lin from Taiwan. Currently ranked number two in Taiwan, Lin started out in Stage 1 and has outclassed all of her opponents thus far in both stages. Many fans and pros have commented that they have never seen such shot-making ability from a woman before. Today she cruised through fellow Taiwanese Hsin Huang and then ran over Korea's J.H. Moon. She will face Korea’s number-two female Yun Mi Lim tomorrow. Tomorrow’s line-up includes Williams versus Wu, Eberle versus Park, Takahashi versus Immonen, and Hohmann versus Jeong.
