Brunswick Billiards Is Official Sponsor Of Two International 9-Ball Championships

BRISTOL, Wis. (July 9, 2004) -- Brunswick Billiards is busy this summer doing what it does best - providing people with the highest-quality billiards tables. In the next few weeks, the people who will be playing o­n these expertly designed tables are the best of the best, as they compete in two international pool championships.

Brunswick will be sponsoring the 2004 World Pool Championship at the World Trade Center in Taipei, Taiwan, July 10-18. The official tables for the event will be Brunswick’s newest tournament table, the Metro™. Some of the table’s unique features that add to its exclusive contemporary style include super-wide elliptical shaped rails, brushed aluminum accents, and the same deep pockets that are used o­n the legendary Gold Crown IV®. The robust base-frame makes it play as well as it looks. There will be 12 black metros for the 128 players who will be competing.

Brunswick will be making history by also sponsoring the 1st Annual Brunswick Korea International Championships along with Dragon Promotions July 22-25. Brunswick’s Metro table will also be the official table at this international 9-ball competition, which will be televised o­n SBS, o­ne of Korea's top three network channels that will be airing 10 matches over a two-month period.

“Korea has solid potential to become a powerhouse in pocket billiards," said John Stransky, president of Brunswick Billiards. "It's a sport o­n the verge of becoming very big in Korea, and Brunswick Billiards and Dragon Promotions hope to encourage Korea’s success in its launch into the world of pocket billiards."

South Korea has long been known as the dominant force in carom with over 10,000 carom rooms existing in the country. Recently, South Korea has been making its mark in the world of pool with emerging players, such as Young Hwa Jeong who is currently ranked #1 in Asia, and the new WPBA star Ga Young Kim. The United States also has its own Korean American stars, such as the top ranked Charlie “Korean Dragon” Williams and Jeanette “Black Widow” Lee.

The Brunswick Korea International Championships will have top players, such as the reigning World Champion Thorsten Hohmann (Germany), Mika Immonen(Finland), Kunihiko Takahashi(Japan), Hiroshi Takenaka(Japan), Chia-Ching Wu (Taiwan), Max Eberle(USA), and Charlie Williams(USA). The Women’s’ Division will include Jennifer Baretta(USA), Saeko Mori(Japan), Hsin Huang (Taiwan). Korean players will include Young Hwa Jeong, Shin Young Park, and Ga Young Kim.
