Brunswick Pro Players Championship Begins Two 2003 Mosconi Cup team members from opposing sides met in the first round when reigning U.S. Open champion Jeremy Jones matched up with Mika “Iceman” Immonen. Immonen, who recently bought a poolroom in the Philadelphia area, overcame a 7-3 deficit and came back to make it a hill-hill match in the race to 10. Immonen broke and ended up leaving himself a poor shot on the 4. He tried to float it into the corner but hung it up. After some consideration, Jones shot and made the 4 and then speared a straight-in 7 ball to win the match 10-9. A classic rematch between Ronnie “Everything’s Funny When You’re Winning Big Money” Wiseman of Detroit, MI, and self-proclaimed Italian sportsman Fabio Petroni met in the winners’ side. These two met in last fall’s Capital City Classic, where ensued a most entertaining argument about proper racking procedures. Today, neither seemed to be playing his best pool, and the lead changed hands quite a bit during the lengthy race. A break-and-run by Petroni knotted the score at 8, and then when Wiseman came up dry on the break, Petroni took the 2-9 gift to reach the hill. With a nice position shot to get on the 8, Petroni was able to win the match 10-8. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
