Luc Salvas and Charlie Williams met in the match to determine fourth place. Salvas, one of the speediest players in the game, gained a 6-4 lead over the current UPA president, but Williams soon erased that and replaced it with a 8-7 advantage of his own. Salvas made nothing on his next break, leaving the open table as easy pickings for Williams, who ran out to get to the hill. Williams then broke and freewheeled through the following rack, winning the match 10-7. In the semifinals, Williams and Deuel faced each other in a rematch of last week's match for fifth place in the Gabriels Open event in Las Vegas, in which Williams bested Deuel in a hill-hill match. Deuel took the lead 3-1, but Williams soon caught him and passed him to make the score 6-3 Williams. It seemed as if every time Williams broke, he was out, which did not bode well for Deuel, whose break was not as successful. Soon Williams was on the hill with Deuel at 5. A disinterested Deuel took a whack at the 1-9 combo in the last rack, missed, and Williams ran out to win the match 10-5. Williams will face Ronnie Wiseman in the one-set finals at 4 p.m. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
