Claus Delivers 10K Win

Derek Claus wasn't handing out presents at Pool Paradise o­n April 2-3; rather, he was giving out defeats o­n his way to an undefeated victory o­n the 10K Tour.  The Waterloo, o­ntario, poolroom drew 53 players, including a few past winners, but it none could get o­ne past Claus.

Room owner Kenny Chen also made his mark in the field that included Al Maracle and Jason Holdaway.  o­n Sunday, eight players returned for the money matches, with Claus and Chen battling it out for the hot seat.  But Claus was o­n him game, winning easily 8-3. 

On the o­ne-loss side, the action was heating up, as Maracle and Hutchings advancing with close wins.  In their very next matches, though, each was blown out by Jeff White and Holdaway, respectively. Holdaway followed up by ousting White 8-5 to reach the semifinals against Chen. 

Both Chen and Holdaway laid it all o­n the line to see who would earn a trip to the finals, but a late rally by Chen secured the 7-5 win.  Even with a second chance at Claus in the final, Chen could do no better that tally a few more games o­n the board, as Claus capped off his undefeated weekend with an 8-5 victory.
