Comeback Win for Ranew in South CarolinaBy Steve Jennings The small field that gathered at Game Time Riptide in Greenville, SC, on February 26 put on quite a show, as several matches went down to the wire and a few players made names for themselves. Both Mike Szkulnicki and Archie Ranew earned their best finishes on Fury Carolina Tour. Szkulnicki compiled a 21-8 record on his way to the hot seat match against Ronnie Mercer. The match went right down to the wire, and Szkulnicki edged out the 7-6 win. Meanwhile, after Ranew fell 7-6 in his opening match against David Holloway, he came back strong, winning four straight matches, including the semifinals against Mercer. The final match was a seesaw battle, as both players jockeyed for the lead. Ranew took the first two games, but Szkulnicki came right back to tie it up at 2 apiece. After Ranew won the next rack, Szkulnicki won three in a row. But down 5-3, though, Ranew got his second wind and rattled off five straight games to reach the hill at 8-5. And, after Szkulnicki tallied two more wins, Ranew closed it out to earn his first win 9-7.
