Corr Stays on Top With 9-Ball Championship by InsidePOOL Magazine

Corr Stays on Top With 9-Ball Championship

By Bill Rosenberger

Corr-in-Oregon.jpgIt took WPBA pro Karen Corr quite some time to reach the number-one world ranking, and she doesn't appear to want to let it go any time soon.  Corr kept her title by going undefeated at the 2004 Cuetec Cues Women's 9-Ball Championship held at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR, from November 9-14.

Corr's victory was thrilling on so many levels.  Not only did she complete an undefeated event, but she defeated touring partners Allison Fisher and Gerda Hofstatter twice each in the last four matches.

First, in the winners' bracket semifinals, she ousted Hofstatter 9-4, then proceeded to send Fisher to the semifinals with a win in the hot seat match.  Hofstatter knocked out Kelly Fisher 9-0 to also earn a spot in the semifinals, where she then bested the number-two player in the world to earn a spot in the finals.

Corr took care of Hofstatter in the final match to win the tournament and extend her WPBA points lead to 145.  Corr and Fisher remain so close in the points race that Fisher can regain the top spot by finishing higher than her nemesis in the next WBPA event, which will be the Cuetec Cues Florida Classic on December 1-5 in Hollywood, FL, at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino.
