Crooked Cue Tamed by Kennedy By Bill Rosenberger The J. Pechauer Southeast 9-Ball Tour stopped at the Crooked Cue in Waynesville, NC, on January 30, with tour director Tommy Kennedy chalking up another victory. The $1,000-added event, dubbed the Waynesville Open II, drew a talented field for the twenty-seventh stop of the season.
The room's owners, the Fradys, made sure the tables and playing areas were in excellent condition for the event, and the staff was outstanding to be around. The play on the tables was also worth the label of outstanding as well. Three players emerged as contenders late on Sunday night: Kennedy, Brian White, and Joel Bradshaw. Early in the day, Kennedy bested White 9-3, but he made his mark in the one-loss side, storming back to reach the semifinals. Meanwhile, Kennedy and Bradshaw advanced to the hot seat match, with Kennedy claiming the easy 9-3 win. Bradshaw then faced White in the semifinal and again stared down a quick defeat, falling 9-2. White got another chance at Kennedy in the finals but could never gain any momentum. Kennedy grabbed an early lead and ran with it, earning another tournament win 11-3.
