Daniels Wins Viking Amateur Stop

By Bill Rosenberger

justin-daniels12-5.jpgThe Viking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour has flourished under the direction of Matt Janis during the 2004 season.  one of the last stops of the year was also the best as 56 players flocked to the newly renovated Blackie's Billiards in Sharon, PA, on December 5.

Besides the outstanding 9-ball event, Janis also hosted a break contest that kept players and fans busy during breaks in the action, attracting over 90 contestants.  Janis said that each amateur event would now likely include a break contest.

Marty Lawson, Justin Daniels, and Jim Davis were the last three standing on Sunday evening, with Davis having come through the one-loss side.  Lawson and Daniels, both with perfect records, squared off in the hot seat match, and Daniels edged out the 5-4 win.

Lawson headed to the semifinals to play Davis, and Lawson squeaked by with a 5-3 win.  In finals, Lawson and Daniels put on another great show for the crowd.  Both played tight but made the shots they needed to make, and the match went to 4 apiece.  In the decisive game, Lawson miscued, leaving Daniels to run out the match for a 5-4 win.

Results:

1st Justin Daniels $750

2nd Marty Lawson $520

3rd Jim Davis $370

4th Jackie Palmer $230

5th Butch Weimer, Joe Armeni $115
