Davis & Brothers Earn Hampton Ridge Victories

By InsidePOOL Staff

The Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour didn’t draw the typically high number of players for their April 23-24 stop at Champion Billiards, but that didn’t stop them from having a successful weekend.  Tournament director Jose Burgos included a Sunday evening second-chance tournament that brought back 10 of the 28 players from the 9-ball brackets.

The Laurel, MD, poolroom hosted an event that brought many of the top Northeast players, including Mike Davis, Keith McCready, and Ryan McCreesh.  Davis and McCreesh both enjoyed success in the 9-ball tournament, while McCready nearly pulled out the second-chance victory.

On Sunday, the action on the tables was heating up, as McCreesh and Lee Holt met up in the hot seat match.  The contest went back and forth, but McCreesh pulled out the win 7-5.

Holt, who leads the tour in points, took his game to the semifinals to face Davis, who had just ousted Brandon Shuff 7-5.  Davis then took out Holt 7-4 to reach the finals.

The match up in the finals was a good one, as Davis faced the man who had sent him to the one-loss side to start the day.  Early on, McCreesh stayed right with his opponent, but Davis grew an insurmountable lead and rolled to a 9-5 win.

After the 9-ball event concluded, Burgos kicked off the second-chance tournament, and right from the start, Josh Brothers had the hot hand.  He bested Troy Huffman, Burgos, Davis, and McCready to reach the finals, and after McCready ousted Davis in the semis, the two set out for a rematch.

The final match was a duel between the young Brothers and the veteran McCready.  The two players battled to hill-hill, and in the final rack, Brothers sunk three balls off of a monster break, leaving the table wide open for the run out.
