Davis Comes Back to Win Joss Tour EventBy Bill Rosenberger Ultimate Billiards Club in Berlin, CT, witnessed an ultimate comeback by Mike Davis, as he doubled up Joey Korsiak in the finals to win the Joss Tour's fifteenth stop. Korsiak had sent Davis to one-loss side with a win in the hot seat match, but he came back through and scored the victory.
Tournament director Mike Zuglan, who was also one of Davis's victims, offered his compliments to the room, which provided 21 Diamond tables, along with great service and food. The hospitality plus the $5,000 that was added might have been why 63 players showed up to compete in the talented field. Not only were Davis and Korsiak in attendance, but Ryan McCreesh, Teddy Garrahan, and Frankie Hernandez also played their hands in the weekend event on March 5-6. Sunday night's final four included Korsiak and Davis in the hot seat, while McCreesh and Joe DiPietro battled it out in the quarterfinals. After DiPietro's victory, many of the spectators focused on the hot seat match, where Davis was streaking back from a 7-2 deficit. The contest went to hill-hill, where Korsiak edged out the victory to advance to the finals. In the semifinals, Davis staked an early lead on DiPietro and never looked back, earning a 9-7 win and another shot at Korsiak in the double-elimination finals. In the first set, Davis worked the table and gained an early lead, but Korsiak fought back, getting the match close, but not close enough. Davis nailed down the first set 9-7 then mirrored his performance in the second set to take home the victory 9-6.
