Day o­ne of the Japan Cup Completed 

ShujiNagata.jpgThe sixth Japan Cup began o­n June 10, 2004, with a field of 83 players.  After the first day, Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, two giants from the Philippines; three world champions Ralf Souquet, Thorsten Hohmann, and Mika Immonen; Antonio Lining; Ramil Gallego; Jeong Young Hwa; Charlie Williams; Hiroshi Takenaka; Shintaro Sugaya; Terukazu Mukai Go Takami; and Syuji Nagata remain o­n the winners’ side.  Warren Kiamco and Dennis Orcullo are still in o­n the o­ne-loss side, and Mike Massey has been eliminated.

There was an upset at the first day by Go Takami, who defeated Warren Kiamco 9-6.  Shuji Nagata was the most remarkable player of the day, defeating Gabica 9-1.  Japanese players did well o­n their home turf.

This tournament will end o­n June 13, and beginning o­n Friday, there will also be a wheelchair tournament.  The women’s event starts o­n June 12.
