JohnHorsfallUSOpenlead.jpgIn the 8:30 p.m. round, the featured match was between John Horsfall and Frankie Hernandez.  Horsfall, an excellent Canadian player, recently was runner-up to Francisco Bustamante at the International Challenge of Champions, held at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT.  The match started off with Hernandez, a player out of New York, taking a strong 6-0 lead.  Things continued in this manner, with Hernandez moving up to a 9-3 lead, and then Horsfall made his move.  He won the next eight games in a row to win by the score of 11-9 in the most dynamic match of the evening.

There were some very difficult and close matches throughout Wednesday evening.  Earl “The Pearl” Strickland had Troy Frank 9-4 and Frank staged a monumental comeback to take the hill, only to ultimately be defeated 11-10.  “Rocket” Rodney Morris out of Hawaii had a hill-hill match with Eddie Galati of Canada and came out the victor.  U.S. Amateur Tournament runner-up Scott Tollefson was up 10-8 against Donny Mills and ended up losing 11-10.  Defending champion Ralf Souquet met Marcus Chamat and battled with him to the hill, ultimately winning 11-10.  Scott “The Freezer” Frost, fresh off his first-place finish at the Legends of one-Pocket event a couple of weeks ago, defeated opponent David Grossman 11-6 after some excellent and confident-looking play.
