DeYoung Makes Undefeated Run in MidwestBy J.A. Barnes Some of the best amateurs from the Midwest region gathered at E&A Billiards in Milan, OH, for the sixth Fury Midwest Tour stop on May 7-8. Mark DeYoung's undefeated run through the tournament earned him an impressive victory against a field that featured 30 players and some incredible 9-ball. DeYoung and Danny Smith were on a collision course for the hot seat match as DeYoung sent Danny Barns to the "B"-side while Smith bested Ted Reeves. In the king of the hill match it was all DeYoung as he triumphed over Smith and secured his spot in the finals. One the one-loss side Mark Ritter and points-leader Casey Ward were dominating the bracket until they encountered Reeves and Barns. Both Reeves and Barns captured victories and found themselves opposite of one another for the right to extend their tournament to the next round. Barns jumped out to an early lead before Reeves came roaring back to get the match to hill-hill; however, Barns prevailed in the hard-fought match to advance on to the semifinals. Building on his momentum, Barns ousted Smith 5-1 to advance to face DeYoung in the finals. DeYoung and Barns met earlier in the tournament with DeYoung besting Barns in a hill-hill match. Looking for revenge, Barns watched DeYoung race out to an early 6-0 lead and his chances for victory quickly slipping away. He responded by taking a few games, but DeYoung was unstoppable as he took the match 9-4 and claimed his second win on the Fury Midwest Tour.
