Fisher Gets Back on Track with Amway Cup TitleBy InsidePOOL Staff Allison Fisher started off 2005 with two straight WPBA wins but finished a modest fifth at the last event. on May 10, she regained her usual form by winning the 2005 Amway Cup over Ga-Young Kim in Taiwan.
Fisher reached the finals by winning the "B" bracket with a 4-1 record, followed by a semifinal victory over Karen Corr. Kim's trek to the finals came with a dominating 7-2 win against Shin-Mei Liu in their semifinal match. On the final day, Corr and Liu battled for third place, while Fisher and Kim played for the title. After Corr nabbed third with a 7-4 win, the title bout got underway. Right from the start, Fisher showed her experience over the young world champion by running to a 5-1 lead. Although Kim tallied a few wins, Fisher countered every one, taking the final Amway Cup 11-6. In 2006, the event will be known as the WPA Women's World Championships.
