Friday Night at the Reno Open by InsidePOOL Magazine

Corey Deuel and Danny “Kid Delicious” Basavich, who is the subject of a lengthy feature story in Sports Illustrated that is due out this month, also battled it out to the hill.  Basavich overcame a 7-3 deficit with some excellent play but was unable to convert after tying the match at 8-all.

Canadian Tyler Edey dealt Jose Parica his first loss 9-4 in the winners’ bracket, and Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant, recent winner of the Glass City Open, won his match over Glenn Atwell 9-5.  In the one-loss side, Rodney Morris had a 9-0 wipeout over Richard Burns, Canadian-Filipino Edwin Montal ousted former Reno Open champ Mike Davis 9-4, Ismael “Morro” Paez defeated Arizona player Jimmy Mendoza 9-6, and Jeff Abernathy won against Gerardo Jamito 9-7.

In the last round on Friday, the winners' bracket was narrowed to four players.  Bryant defeated James Laderia 9-6, Mike Vidas bested Corey Deuel 9-7, Ernesto Dominguez won over Tyler Edey 9-6, and Jeremy Jones defeated George Michaels 9-6.

Saturday’s matches will narrow the field to the final four, who will return on Sunday at 11 a.m.
