Friday Night at the WPBA U.S. Open by InsidePOOL Magazine

In another upset, the number-nine ranked Ga Young Kim, who was the runner-up at this event last year to Karen Corr, matched up with Jeanette Lee in the winners’ bracket.  “The Black Widow” took a 3-0 lead in the race to 9, but then Kim won eight games in a row to reach the hill with Lee standing still.  Kim came up dry on her last break, and Lee cleared the table to add another bead to her score.  However, when Lee missed a rail shot on the 5, Kim ran out to the 8 before Lee threw in the towel, conceding the match at 9-4.

Allison Fisher played a tough match against Hsin Huang, who took third place at last month’s Canadian Classic.  Fisher held a 6-4 lead when Huang came on strong and brought the score to 8-7 after “The Duchess of Doom” rattled the 6 ball.  But a break and run by the WPBA’s number-one player kept her in the winners’ bracket with her 9-7 win.
