Garcia Goes Undefeated in NE Players Tour From five different states, 41 players came out to the NorthEast Players Tour's stop at The Green Room Billiards in Maple Shade, New Jersey the weekend of November 15-16, 2003. The field consisted of a wide range of talented players like Matt Krah, Mike Miller, Jim Hill, Phil Sherman, Josh Brothers, Pat McNally, Bob Maidhof, Lee Holt, and Jose Garcia. Ashley Cartwright from Virginia and Jose Feliciano from New Jersey made their debut and had a great performance. Established tour players Justin Verna from Marlton, NJ, and Jim Manno from Albrightsville, PA, cashed for the first time. Keep up the great playing!
Josh Brothers and Pat McNally lost their first round matches but were resilient as they fought back in the one-loss bracket. McNally won five straight matches to end up in the top eight. Brothers won seven straight matches to finish in fourth place. Another player who deserves recognition is third-place finisher Scott Freeman from Cherry Hill, NJ. Freeman played an excellent tournament. But the talk of the town revolved around the two talented players who have been playing each other since the 1970s. Steve Dobbs, a.k.a. "Stevie Wonder," from Levittown, PA, won five matches to earn his way to the finals. Dobbs' matches were in record time as he quickly fired in balls and franticly ran racks at an average of one per minute. Jose Garcia from Vineland, NJ, earned his way by wins over Melissa Burr, Robert Pole, Mike Dever, Bob Maidhof, Scott Freeman, and a hill-to-hill thriller over Dobbs. Garcia, a professional pool player, is the owner of the Q-Ball Billiards. In the finals, Dobbs took the early lead, only to have Garcia quickly counter to make the score 5-1. From this point on, both players performed flawlessly. As each player traded games, Garcia's early lead became too much for Dobbs to overcome. The final score and victory belonged to Garcia 9-5. The NE Players Tour would like to thank Joe Worrell and the entire staff at The Green Room Billiards for a wonderful experience. The service and equipment is top notch.
