Gollan Dominates J. Pechauer West Coast Tour Washington Event by InsidePOOL Magazine

Gollan and Atwell met early in the tournament on the front side of the chart on a table located beside a high traffic aisle.  Atwell was playing some of the best pool in the tournament but lost his concentration because of passing spectators.  Taking full advantage, Gollan sent Atwell to the back side of the chart with a 9-4 win.

Atwell was fighting his way through the west side when he met Mike Zimmerman in the quarterfinals.  Although playing well, Zimmerman could not get out ahead of his opponent.  Commanding the entire match, Atwell forced Zimmerman to settle for fourth place after a 9-5 victory.

Back on the front side of the chart, world-renowned trick shot artist Massey and Gollan were fighting for the hot seat.  A crowd gathered to watch the excellent position play of both with awe, but Gollan led from start to the 9-6 finish.

Massey traveled to the back side of the chart to meet with Atwell in the semis.  Atwell gained a five-game lead before Massey even got out of his chair.  At 5-1, Massey took advantage of poor safety by Atwell and took a couple of racks for himself.  However, it was too little, too late, and Atwell dominated the match with a 9-5 victory, sending Massey home with third place.

In the finals, Gollan jumped to an 8-2 lead over Atwell, making it look like the final race to 13 was going to be over quickly.  But a miscue on the 5 by Gollan let Atwell to the table to do some serious damage.  He took the next eight out of ten racks to even the score at 10 apiece.  With yet another game under his belt to make it 11-10, Atwell was on his way to a run-out but got stumped by the layout of the table, where all of the balls were at the bottom.  After a tough rail shot on the 8, he found himself without good position on the 9 and missed the tough shot into the side.  Gollan took advantage of this gift horse to shoot out the last racks he needed to win the tournament 13-11.
