Hall of Fame Performance by GrecarBy Alice Rim The Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour kicked off its 2005 season at Hall of Fame Billiards in Warren, MI, on January 29-30. The event also awarded a WPBA qualifier, which many of the 33 ladies in attendance had their eyes on. Gail Grecar, a WPBA pro from Northfield, OH, emerged undefeated with tough hill-hill wins over Annette Carroll and C.J. Jerome, before besting Tina Larson 7-4 to win the hot seat. Before falling to Grecar in the hot seat match, Larson was blowing away her competition, as well, with convincing wins over Mary Litt and India Slaughter. The Palatine, IL, resident then ousted Sunny Ulrich 7-5 in the semifinals to earn a rematch with Grecar in the finals. Larsen took an early 3-1 lead in the final match, but Grecar wasted no time in staging her comeback. once she got the match even at 3 apiece, Grecar really took charge. She nailed the 9 on the break in Game 7, followed by a quick 2-9 combo to take a 5-3 lead. She went on to extend her winning streak to seven games to take an 8-3 lead. Larsen notched another game, but it was too late, as Grecar took the match 9-4. The one consolation for Larsen was that she was awarded the WPBA qualifying spot, since Grecar is already on tour.
