After suffering a hill-hill defeat to Hernandez in the winners’ bracket, Brothers went on to defeat past Reno Open champion Mike Davis 7-3, Christian Smith 7-1, and then Matt Krah in the semifinals. Krah went to the “B” side after matching up with Hernandez, where their score was tied at 4-all when Krah missed a 9 ball, essentially giving control of the match to Hernandez. In his rematch with Hernandez in the finals, Brothers took a 2-0 lead, but the undefeated Hernandez tied the match. After invoking the three-foul rule, Brothers took a two-game lead with the help of a missed ball by his opponent; however, Hernandez took the next three games in a row for a 5-4 lead. He missed his next 8 ball, and Brothers tied the match at 5 apiece in the race to 9. After winning the next rack, Brothers was looking good, but an error on his part gave control back to Hernandez, who won the next three games in a row for the 9-6 victory.
