Jennings Wins Fury Georgia OpenerBy Bill Rosenberger The Fury Georgia Amateur 9-Ball Tour finally kicked off its 2005 season after having to cancel its first event in late January because of an ice storm that hit the area. But on February 5, the event at Mr. Cues II got underway with a small but talented field of players led by Jim Jennings and Lane Simmons. The two met in the quarterfinals of the winners' bracket with Simmons grabbing the 9-3 win to advance to the hot seat match against Billy Tyler. Tyler ousted Matt Miller 9-5 but fell 9-5 against Simmons in the hot seat match. Meanwhile, Jennings ousted Chris Hightower, Steve Cox, and then Tyler in the semifinals, earning him a trip back to the finals against Simmons. The final match between Jennings and Simmons provided plenty of excitement for fans and players in attendance. After Jennings raced to an early 5-3 lead, Simmons bounced back to tie it up. But Jennings regained the lead at 6-5 and never looked back, winning the event 9-6.
