Jones Blazes Through the Field in San Antonio

JeremyJones61704.jpgFast Eddie's 9-Ball Tour made its sixth stop at the Fast Eddie's on N.W. Military Blvd. in San Antonio, TX, on June 12-13, 2004.  A total of 85 players made up the field in two divisions with top picks being 2003 U.S. Open winner Jeremy "Double J" Jones, Edgar Acaba, David Henson, James Davis Sr., James Davis Jr., last month's champ Candy Ramos, Robert Newkirk, and Steve "Lizard" Smith.  Jones left the competition behind when he took the win after going through the tournament undefeated.

Stanley, who hails from Austin, was playing fast and loose, defeating three players before being sent to the one-loss side by Henson in a hill-hill match.  There, Stanley was defeated by Davis Jr. in yet another exciting hill-hill match that ended with a final decision of 7-6.

This win set Davis Jr. up to play the loser of the hot seat match that was being played by Jones and Henson.  The two undefeated players waged a bitter battle to determine who would land in the hot seat, taking it hill-hill before Jones took the deciding rack and made the score 9-8.

Henson took control from the start of the semifinal match against Davis Jr., drubbing him 9-1, setting up a rematch with Jones for the finals.

Jones, who is newly sponsored by Schuler Legacy Cues, was waiting for his opponent's arrival.  Henson again gave Jones a run for his money but could not close the gap while Jones was on the hill with 8-5 to secure the win.  Jones went on to take the final rack, and the win, with a final 9-5 decision.

Results:

1st Jeremy Jones

2nd David Henson

3rd James Davis Jr.

4th Rick Stanley

5th Sylver Ochoa, Edgar Acaba

7th Jesse Mata, Alan Fitzpatrick

9th Charlie Mora, Scott Kephart, Steve Smith, Chuck Swisher
