The tournament started with Phil Sherman, the number-one ranked player on the tour, dominating the winners' side brackets. He defeated Sam Pearthree, Mike Slagle, Lonnie Huston, Joe Long, and Joe Cataldi to win a bid in the championship match. Waiting patiently, Phil Sherman from Havertown, PA, had to watch and wait as the 18-year old sensation from Willmington, DE, pounded his way to the finals, defeating Lee Holt, Pat Ruese, Mike Harris, Jimi Louis, Jamie Doellinger, and Joe Cataldi. Third-place finisher Joe Cataldi from Brogue, PA, was the only player to win a match against Josh Brothers. In the final match to nine, Brothers only missed two balls and played carefully calculated defensive play. Never letting up or relinquishing the lead, the final score was 9-2. Brothers, who plays out of Cue & Cushion in Newark, DE, has been playing since he was four. A close friend of his said in his youth he used to play on milk crates. Three-time winner of the Super Billiard Expo and one time winner of the NE Players Tour Open, Brothers is certainly on his way to pro class stature. The Northeast Players Tour would like to thank and recognize the hospitality we received from the billiard establishments in Maryland. The staff and owners at Hot Shots Billiards and The Billiard Club were exceptional hosts. These rooms are an asset to their community and all pool players involved. The tour’s alternating break format allows players to have an equal opportunity at the table. Like other sports, each individual has an equal chance to showcase his or her talents. There have been five events this year with five different winners! Tour Stop # 6 is at American Billiards in Quakertown, PA, on Sunday, June 29. See you there for the “Best Time Ever”!
