Kennedy Back on Track With Southeast VictoryBy Bill Rosenberger Tommy Kennedy started out 2005 with three straight tour victories on the J. Pechauer Southeast 9-Ball Tour but had fallen silent in recent weeks. on April 9-10, he got his game back on track, capturing the tournament held at Veterans Billiards in Port Charlotte, NC.
A field of 35 players turned out for the event, and as the number of players dwindled down for Sunday's final matches, it was clear that it was going to be an exciting finish. Kennedy led the field, going undefeated to reach the hot seat match against Brian Davalos. Right out of the gate, Kennedy was on fire, and his 9-3 win pushed him into the finals. On the one-loss side Davalos met Dan Briggs, who had just pulled out a thrilling 9-8 win over Frank Strain. In the semifinals, Briggs and Davalos traded games back and forth until the match reached hill-hill. In the last rack, Davalos laid it on the line and came through with the victory. In the final match, Davalos tried to avenge his defeat in the hot seat match, and early on, both he and Kennedy kept the contest close. But Kennedy gained control of the table and raced to the 11-7 victory.
