"Kid Delicious" Eats Up Joss Tour

By Bill Rosenberger

Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich ate up the Joss Northeast Tour event at Boston Billiard Club in Salem, MA, on October 23-24.  The 61-player field was a large entrée for Basavich, and he never bit off more than he could chew.

Basavich and Lenny Favata both worked through the winners' bracket on Saturday to earn spots in the hot seat match.  But "Kid Delicious" was just too much, and he won easily 9-3.

Carlos Viera, who battled through the one-loss side to reach the semifinals, matched up against Favata.  Viera was in an early hole but managed to climb back slowly.  Favata was just too strong and held onto the match 9-5.

In the double-elimination finals, Favata needed two sets to claim victory.  In the first set, both players were competitive, but neither could pull away.  With the score tied at 7-all, Basavich scratched on a safety play, leaving Favata to run out the rest of the match.

In the second set, Basavich came out fighting, taking an early lead.  Favata managed to creep back, but Basavich blazed to the 9-4 victory.

The weekend event was also held in conjunction with a Red Cross and local fire department roast beef luncheon.  The huge weekend crowd enjoyed competitive 9-ball and the food, with all the proceeds from the roast beef lunches going to both non-profit organizations.
