Korea Dominates Japan in Ultimate Pool Challenge by InsidePOOL Magazine

Korea Dominates Japan in Ultimate Pool Challenge

The MBCESPN Korea versus Japan Ultimate Pool Challenge featured the top pool players in a heated rivalry from two neighboring nations.  Falcon Cues, Brunswick, and MBCESPN sponsored this event between the two Asian nations as the rivals squared-off for some ultimate pool action.  Team Korea's outstanding performance in day one of the competition helped them to a comfortable 7-1 lead in the team matches.  In the second day of the tournament they used that wide margin to capture the title in a most convincing fashion.

Korea's Jeong defeated Matsufusa 3-0 to have his team reach the hill 8-1 at the beginning of the second day's action; however, Japan's top player and team captain, Takenaka, kept his team alive by defeating the top-ranked Korean, Kim, 4-0.  In the 4-on-4 scotch team match, Japan claimed victory 3-1 while also claiming victory over the Koreans in the doubles match as Takenaka and Higaki knocked off Jeong and Kim.

Team Japan appeared to have stolen some momentum from the Koreans as they had the opportunity to force the event to go into the last and final evening session; however, Niwa of Japan failed to capitalize on two opportunities that sealed the victory for the Korean team. The impressive 9-4 victory for the Koreans certainly provides evidence that Korea is becoming a force to contend with in the pool world.
