Lamperts Wins Third Event in a Row The old saying “third time’s a charm” explains it all for Amanda Lampert as she won her third consecutive event in the ladies’ division at the fourth stop of the Fast Eddie’s 9-Ball Tour held in San Antonio on April 19, 2004. Twenty-two ladies stepped up to the table to clash for queen of the hill honors. Top picks were Amanda Lampert, Melinda Bailey, Audra Carter, Anne Mayes of AO Custom Cues, Heather Pulford, Michelle Cortez, Belinda Lee, and Kim Pierce. Also, it was nice to see the new members and future champions, Chelsea Dean, Corina Cambell, Yvette Cox, and Richella Holbrook. Michelle Cortez and Melinda Bailey had a great showing and tied for fifth place. These ladies are always in the hunt! Anne Mayes, creator and artisan of AO Custom Cues of Houston, donated a beautiful cue for raffle that raised over $400 for the add-on to the ladies’ event. Mayes decided to take some of that money home with her fourth-place finish. She had wins over the tough Jennifer Kraber and Yvette Cox when she ran into Lampert and ended up on the one-loss side. Once there, she triumphed over Melinda Bailey in a hill-hill struggle and was finally sent to the spectator gallery in another 5-4 nail-biter by Kawania Watson. Belinda Lee of Houston made her debut on the tour last month in Houston with a fourth-place finish. At this month’s event, Lee tore through the field with wins over Sophie Lopez, Sharon Townsend, Kawania Watson, and Amanda Lampert to jump into the hot seat. Lampert, of San Antonio, already with two tour wins this year was on a mission. She started with conquests over Michelle Cortez, Heather Pulford, Diana Cardona, and Anne Mayes when she lost to Lee in the finals of the winners’ bracket. Lampert then kicked it up a gear and defeated Kawania Watson in the finals of the one-loss side to set up a rematch with Lee for a great final match. With the format of a double race to seven in the finals, Lampert dominated the first set 7-3. Lee came storming back in the second set and was ahead 6-4 when Lampert reached down and found that extra gear and defeated Lee 7-6 for her third straight tour victory. It was a well-fought battle by both ladies after an extremely long day. A big thank you to Bob Hamilton of GM-Culebra, Courtney and their staff for hosting a great event. And thank you Anne! A special thanks to you ladies for the support you give each other no matter who wins. See you next month in McAllen! Call Lewis Jones @ (210) 367-4761 early to let us know you are coming.
