Miracle for Maracle on 10K Tour by InsidePOOL Magazine

Miracle for Maracle on 10K Tour

By Bill Rosenberger

maracle-10ktour.jpgA 62-player field swamped Bobby D's in Burlington, ontario, for the 10K Tour on February 12-13.  The strong field was led by Al Maracle, who came back through the one-loss side to sweep the two-set finals for the victory.

Maracle's early defeat left the winners' bracket wide open for Jason Holdaway and Susie Wipper to plow their way through.  After Wipper's win over Derek Claus, she met Holdaway in the hot seat match.  Holdaway, who had bested Mario Morra 9-1, kept his hot stroke going, as he easily defeated Wipper 9-3.

In the one-loss side, Maracle ousted Dave McMahon and Morra to reach the semifinals against Wipper.  After a 7-1 defeat, Wipper settled for a respectable third-place finish, while Maracle headed to the finals against Holdaway.

In the double-elimination finals, Maracle needed a miracle to beat Holdaway in two straight sets.  In the first set, both players battled back and forth, with neither giving an inch.  However, Maracle's late run earned him a 7-5 win.  In the second set, Maracle kept the momentum and won the tournament 7-4.
