Moore Comes from Behind for First Win on Fury Florida Tour by InsidePOOL Magazine

Moore Comes from Behind for First Win on Fury Florida Tour

By Kay Higgins

Bobby Moore battled his way through the west side of the chart after his first-round defeat by Bill Bloom to score his first win on the KBP Fury Florida Amateur tour.  The tour made its eleventh stop of the season at Baron's Billiards, formerly Jerome's Billiards, in Bradenton, FL, on June 27, 2004, and was welcomed by new owner Tim Baron.  The stop drew a total of 43 players to compete in the $500-added event.

In the fight for fourth place, tour point leader Larry Walthall faced off against Moore. The games were intense, but in the end Moore took a 5-3 victory over Walthall.

While Moore was playing through the one-loss side, Julio Aquino was climbing through the winner's bracket, finally meeting Mike Najarian to see who would be king of the hill.  Najarian took an early 4-1 lead, but Aquino fought back by winning the next six games in a row to score a 7-4 victory and to settle into the finals undefeated.

Since Najarian was sent to the one-loss side, he met up with Moore, who was showing strong, steady playing abilities, in the semifinals. With the match tied 2-2, Najarian won the next two games to bring the score 4-2. Moore then took control of the table for the next three games for a winning score of 5-4.

The race-to-9 final between Moore and Aquino started out with an even 1-1 score, but Moore quickly took the score to 5-1 by claiming four racks in a row.  By the eleventh game, Moore led the match with a 7-4 score, but Aquino took the table for the next four racks, reaching the hill. Moore took charge of the table and won the next two games to claim his first Florida Amateur Tour win by a score of 9-7.

Results:
1st Bobby Moore
2nd Julio Aquino
3rd Mike Najarian
4th Larry Walthall
