Ochoa Rides Again

By InsidePOOL Staff

ochoa,-linda,-walden.jpgSylver Ochoa took another step in establishing himself as one of Texas' rising young stars, as he took the Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9-Ball Tour stop in San Antonio, TX.  The April 9-10 event was held at Fast Eddie's-Culebra, with a huge and talented field of 96 players competing for the title

Many of the top players were there, including James Davis Jr. and Sr., David Gutierrez, 2005 Houston Open champ Jui-Lung Chen, and Charlie Mora.  But many up-and-coming players were also making their mark with top finishes.  Fred Gardener pulled in a seventh-place finish, while Barry Emerson nabbed fourth.

But it was Ochoa who really shined throughout the weekend, especially after his comeback win against Robert Almaraz.  Down 8-3, Ochoa strung off six consecutive wins to earn the 9-8 win.

Chris Walden also had a great tournament, and after ousting Ramirez in the semifinals, had his chance against Ochoa in the finals.  Ochoa made a run at the title right from the start, racing to a 7-2 lead.  But Walden showed a lot of heart in his comeback attempt, winning four straight games to get within one.  After trading the next two games, though, Ochoa closed it out to take his fourth-career tour victory 9-7.

Results:

1st Sylver Ochoa $3,950

2nd Chris Walden $2,750

3rd Eduardo Ramirez $1,860

4th Barry Emerson $1,200

5th Jeff Sorrell, James Davis Sr. $675

9th Charlie Mora, Shane Waltrip, Tony Hinojosa, Destry Ensley $140

13th Robert Newkirk, David Gutierrez, James Davis Jr., Doug Young $100
