One-Pocket Going Strong at Derby City Classic by InsidePOOL Magazine

A lengthier second game saw the players trade safeties back and forth before Krenzel won 8-4 to tie at 1 game apiece in the race to 3.  The third game saw the players neck-and-neck the entire time, with Basavich winning with a one-rail cross bank that gave him the 8-7 win to reach the hill at 2-1.  He continued to dominate in the fourth and last game, capitalizing on an error by Krenzel while at 7-2 to make the final ball and win the match 3-1.

Last year's one-pocket division winner, Jose Parica, met Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton on Table 28 in the next round.  It would be safe to say that Daulton, who suffered his first loss in the previous round to Efren "The Magician" Reyes, did not have an easy draw.  JR Calvert, Keith McCready, and Jenny Maloy were commentating, keeping the audience in stitches, while these two giants of the game battled it out.  Daulton took the first two games by the score of 8-0 each, putting himself on the hill 2-0.

However, Parica had other ideas in mind and didn't see himself being shot down by "The Cannon."  He ran 7 and then ducked in their third game.  Daulton ran 7 as well and then overcut his last ball down the rail.  Parica kick-banked it in his hole, a real pro shot, to win the third game 8-7, making it 2-1 Daulton.  In the next, exceptionally lengthy match, the two players battled back and forth, trading safeties and throw-in shots until Daulton tried for a flyer and sold out, allowing Parica to win 8-1 to tie at 2 apiece.  Parica got to a 4-0 lead in the hill game, and Daulton got in 3 of his own before he missed a long bank and left the 15 for Daulton, who dropped it to make it 6-3 Daulton.  Parica then banked the 10 into his hole, but it hung, and Daulton tried to knock it out but made it accidentally, putting Parica on the hill.  With an easy cross-corner bank on the 8 ball into his hole, Parica was out, winning the game 8-3 and the match 3-2.
