One-Pocket Tournament Won By Friedhofen by InsidePOOL Magazine

One-Pocket Tournament Won By Friedhofen

By Bill Rosenberger

Andy Friedhofen competed in the Midwest 9-Ball Tour's one-pocket event on October 14-15 and beat out a field of 20 players to take home the cash prize of $700.  Tournament director Evelyn Dysart said they hold the one-pocket events when the host location is willing to sponsor it.  Tulsa Billiard Palace added $1,000 to the opening event, while adding $4,000 to the 9-ball tournament.

One-pocket events are played with all 15 balls, with the winner the first player to make eight balls in their designated pockets.  The tournament was a race-to-3, double-elimination event.  Friedhofen met Brian Jones in the hot seat on Friday, and it looked as though Jones was going to take the match.  Down 2-0, Friedhofen came back to win three straight for the 3-2 win.

Jones then faced Shane McMinn in the semifinals, and, although close, Jones finished ahead 3-1.  The finals rematch was set, with Jones having to win two straight matches to complete the comeback.

Jones opened the finals with three straight wins and a one-set lead.  Friedhofen and Jones both needed three games for the first-place finish, and Friedhofen didn't waste any time thinking about it, as he swept the second set for the victory.

Results:

1st Andy Friedhofen $700

2nd Brian Jones $450

3rd Shane McMinn $270

4th Greg Hogue $180
