One-Pocket Winding Down While 9-Ball Begins by InsidePOOL Magazine

In the brief second game, Frost executed a great backsmash and caromed the 3 into his pocket.  From there, he was able to run another 7 and out to win 8-0, putting him on the hill at 2-0.  The last game lasted a bit longer, but Frost's trademark aggressive style makes him one of the fastest one-pocket players.  Hunter took a 3-0 lead at first, but he left Frost an opening, and the Arizona player ran 7 and then made Hunter's ball and scratched to put the score at 6-3 Frost.  Hunter made 1 and then shot Frost's ball off the table, followed by the cueball to lose a point.  An error by Frost gave Hunter another 3 points, but after Hunter scratched again, Frost ran the necessary 2 and out to win the third game 8-5 and the match 3-0.

The 9-ball division at Derby kicked off today, with 313 entrants.  Max Eberle; Mika Immonen, recent winner of the UPA tour's finale a couple of weeks ago; Johnny Archer, InsidePOOL Magazine's 2003 Player of the Year; Troy Frank; Alex Pagulayan; John Schmidt; Reno Open winner Mike Davis; Jose Parica; defending All-Around Champion Larry Nevel; and Efren Reyes are just a few of the players who hope to win this elite title.
