Planet Pool Ladies' Division Dominated by Rhee

By Bill Rosenberger

WPBA Tour player and Virginia native Sueyen Rhee captured the Planet Pool Ladies 9-Ball event on November 14 at Hagerstown Billiards and Café in Hagerstown, MD.  Rhee's victory included a two-set finals sweep over Amanda Pasko to cap off her comeback.

Rhee fell early in the day, but her dominance in the left bracket showed how much intensity she plays with.  Down 1-0 to Cathy Friend in the one-loss quarterfinals, Rhee bounced back to go up 2-1.  She broke and ran the next two racks and then sank the 9 ball on the break to win the match 5-1.

Meanwhile, in the winners' bracket, it was Pasko and My-Hanh Lac dueling it out for the hot seat, and neither lady was backing down.  Like a surfer catching a wave, Pasko found the current and rode it home for a 7-4 win and a spot in the finals.

Hanh headed over to face the ever-ready Rhee, who took the match quickly 5-1.  Rhee faced Pasko in the finals, where she would prove that you can be down, but never out.

In the first set of the finals, Pasko jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead and needed just one game to cap off her win.  But Rhee never gave in and battled back to win six straight games for a 7-6 win.  In the second set, it was more of the same for Pasko, as she watched Rhee build her lead.  Pasko managed a few tallies in her win column, but Rhee was never in jeopardy in the second set, winning 7-4.

Results:

1st Sueyen Rhee $400

2nd Amanda Pasko $270

3rd My-Hanh Lac $175

4th Cathy Friend $120
